1) New Positions in Criminology in Australia University of Queensland Lecturer and Senior Lecturer in Criminology

SCHOOL OF SOCIAL SCIENCE

The School of Social Science is seeking to employ two Academics (one at Academic Level B and one at Academic Level C) to teach into the criminology program. The positions will commence in early 2011.

The School comprises some 25 academic staff members and over 80 higher degree students and is one of the largest and most prestigious of its type in Australia. It is a research-intensive School comprising the disciplines of anthropology, archaeology, criminology and sociology.

The Role: The successful appointees will have a PhD in criminology or related social-science discipline. In addition to demonstrating formal qualifications and experience in core elements of criminology, they will have a strong record of teaching, research and publication. One of the appointees will possess quantitative research skills and be able to teach quantitative research methods. Both appointees will have a demonstrated ability to teach at undergraduate level, with the Senior Lecturer (Academic Level C) having experience in supervision at postgraduate (honours to doctoral) levels.

The Person: Applicants should hold a PhD in criminology or related social-science discipline, and have experience in the teaching of undergraduate courses. The Senior Lecturer will be experienced in the supervision of postgraduate students, have a strong publication record and have received external research funding.

Remuneration: This is a full-time continuing appointment at Academic Level B or C depending on qualifications and experience. The remuneration packages will be in the range of $73,836 - $87,680 per annum (Academic Level B), and $90,448 - $104,292 per annum (Academic Level C) plus 17% superannuation.

2) ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR
SCHOOL OF CRIMINOLOGY AND CRIMINAL JUSTICE
UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA AT OMAHA

The School of Criminology and Criminal Justice (SCCJ) at the University of Nebraska-Omaha (UNO) invites applications for one tenure-track position to begin in August 2011. The position is at the level of Assistant or (early) Associate Professor. SCCJ is a Ph.D. granting program administered at UNO with programs operating on both the Omaha and Lincoln campuses of the University of Nebraska; the position will be housed in Lincoln. We seek candidates with strong potential for developing a nationally recognized research agenda and with demonstrated ability in teaching.

The ideal candidate will have an interest in working with graduate students on theses and dissertations. We will consider applicants from criminology, criminal justice, and related fields, provided that expertise is related to (a) criminal, violent, or antisocial behavior or (b) crime control, crime/violence prevention, or crime, law and public policy. The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. by the time of appointment. Review of applicants will begin September 15, 2010 and continue until the position is filled.

The European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights is publishing five research related call for tenders on its website.

a) Data collection and research services on fundamental rights issues

Countries involved: all EU 27 Member States plus Croatia

Duration: maximum duration of 48 months

c) The treatment of third-country nationals at the EU’s external borders

The first part of the fieldwork (relating to interception and rescue at sea) will be carried out in Cyprus, Greece, Italy, Malta and Spain and the second part in 10 border crossing points to be identified among those with the highest number of entries of third country nationals into the Schengen area.

Duration: 23 months
